Out of the box design
IDI was asked by the selling broker to join the viewing of a two-story penthouse apartment for a brainstorming session and evaluate if it was possible to improve the space use. The interested buyer had been viewing the apartment for about 6 months and even though many of their criteria were met it wasn’t fulfilling the entire program of requirements or their style. After our discussion and reviewing ideas, the renovation began 4 months later.
The solution was to move the kitchen to the open space, slightly tucked away. The exciting two-story open space made it necessary to create a separation within the large open plan to create a better-defined area. This was achieved by placing a large see-through fireplace creating a cozy living room and dining area next to the kitchen. A bedroom with shower facility was placed in the area where the kitchen had been. The functional adjacencies were now resolved. The master bathroom was also upgraded. All furnishings were existing which needed to be taken into consideration in the new suggested layout.
